Kelantan is known for its culture and some beach side resorts. As the Eastern coast of the Peninsular Malaysia is also famous for its seaside, there are some to visit when coming to the state. Most of the tourist attractions will circle around its capital city of Kota Bahru where one can visit the Cultural Center situated around Jalan Mahmud. This is where one can view and appreciate the heritage and history of the state. There are also on display the arts and crafts of the Kelantanese people. These include the display of the Wayang Kulit and its accompanying instruments, the Silat, the Wau and the Gasing.

Wayang Kulit is typically a shadow puppetry show where it tells of age old tales performed mainly as entertainment during important events like the Berjemu Ceremony. The Silat on the other hand is a local traditional self defense martial arts loved by many but is also performed during big events. The Wau is a kite-flying past time made from wooden sticks and cloth which takes skills and expertise. The crafting of the design of the kite face is an art passed down through generations.Image

The Istana Batu keeps the Royal Museum which is opened daily except Fridays. Otherwise the Handicraft Village and Craft Museum keeps and shows the Kelantanese crafts and cultural memorabilia. It also displays how these items are made and manufactured. The World War II Memorial keeps documents, images and military leftovers particularly from the Japanese occupation here during the war.

Other interesting sites here include the Sultan Ismail Petra Arch, the State Mosque and the Islamic Museum. For the beach lovers however, one could check out the Pantai Cahaya Bulan which literally means Beach of Moonlight. The formerly known as the Beach of Passionate Love is one of the most frequented seaside locations in the state and one could catch the giant Wau kite flying activities here. The Pantai Seri Tujuh which means the Beach of Seven Lagoons is situated around the Tumpat area is closer to the Thai border and Pantai Bisikan Bayu which means Beach of the Whispering Breeze is located in Pasir Puteh, about 50 kilometers from Kota Bahru. The reason its name as such is because of the sound it produces when the sea breeze blows through the casuarinas and thereby creating a hush. At this beach, one can sometimes find surfers and wind surfers as well.

As more and more tourists are recorded visiting Kelantan events are abundant to accommodate them. These are like the Exhibition of Local Craft and Cooking Demonstration, the Kelantan International Batik Festival, the Flora Fiesta, Dikir Barat Competition, Wau Festival, the Monkey Plucking Coconut Competition, the 1000 Silat Exponents Presentation, the National Fishing Competition, the Loy Krathong and the World War II Memorial Day.
