Penang Attractions E-mail

Being a tourist filled state, Penang has an abundant of choices in terms of attractions. One would always be able to find most activities in around the capital of Georgetown and Batu Feringghi the coastal area of the state. One should take note that peak seasons like New Year’s Day, Christmas and the Chinese New Year are seasons when there are most visitors and tourists might find it hard to find a place to stay.

Penang Hill is one of the best place to catch a scenic view of Georgetown. It overlooks the capital and has a train service like a tram that goes up. Known locally as Bukit Bendera, getting up there is easy, hassle free and when up there, one can enjoy a slow walk along the cool breezy air. The Botanical Gardens, located in around Jalan Kebun Bunga is opened daily. Established by Charles Curtis in the late 1800s, it is also known as the Waterfall Gardens where one can catch local folks exercising in the mornings.

Over at Bukit Jambul, one can find the, which is nearby the Penang International Airport. here one can see the country’s biggest Albino Python snake. The Temple of Supreme Bliss, or locally known as Kek Lok Si hosts the biggest Buddhist temple in the whole of South East Asia. Situated in around Ayer Hitam, one could check out the various statues here or stop by to purchase some souvenirs. The Penang Butterfly Farm and Fisheries Department Research Institute Aquarium are also common visitor favourites. The Snake Temple, built in around 1850, was enacted to commemorate a Chinese monk Chor Soo Kong. Situated in around Bayan Lepas and its houses many species of snakes here that is placed in the wild and also in around the Snake Museum.

Other attractions here include the Tropical Spice Garden, the War Museum and the Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion built in around the late 1800s. Golfing is also available in around Bukit Jawi Golf Resort, the Bukit Jambul Golf & Country Club and the Pearl Island Country Club. For the shopping lovers, one could go to the various malls found in around Gurney Plaza, Prangin Mall, Island Plaza and the recently added Queensbay Mall.

For the most obvious reasons, food is one of the main attractions of the state. The traditional fried keuy teow, the Hokkien Mee and the Prawn mee are one of the most sought after food in the country.
