In Sabah, its capital town of Kota Kinabalu is where most commercial and activities are focused on. It is the largest city in East Malaysia and is home to various attractions like Mount Kinabalu, the highest peak in the country, and somewhere off the coast, one can visit the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, which is made up of a group of coral islands. Sandakan is the former capital here while one can come in from Indonesia via the southeast entry point of Tawau.

One of the most all rounded states in the country, Sabah has much to offer to the budding tourist. While national parks are popular for its rich flora and fauna, one can also experience great serene resorts in around the islands. famous ones here include Sipadan which houses one of the world’s most renowned diving spots, so is Mabul Island.

The Harvest Festival is one of Sabah’s most celebrated festival. Known to the Sabahans as the Kaamatan, it takes place around May where Unduk Ngadau is the most famous event. This event which means ‘Harvest Queen’ in Kadazan, functions like a pageant where the female will vy for the title.

Mount Kinabalu, a 4,096 meter high mountain is the highest peak in the country and in South East Asia. It is one of the easiest mountain to climb where thousands of steps that pioneer through various gardens along the way. The breathtaking scenery as one ascends are always unforgettable although nothing beats reaching the top of the mountain to catch the sun rise.

In the capital, one can visit the Monsopiad Cultural Village. Typically a cultural center, one can revisit the history of Kadazan warrior, Monsopiad whose story goes back more than 300 years. Highly regarded as a warrior because he killed off the enemies and hung their skulls which are on display at the Hall of Skulls.

Along any trekking trail, one could sometimes spot some Rafflesia spots. These are typically growing spots where one, if lucky might be able to catch the world’s biggest flower, the Rafflesia. Crocker Range is where one can catch them as well. Other famous attractions in Sabah include the Turtle Islands Park, Sepilok, Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, and Danum Valley in Tawau.
