While Selangor is famous for its historically linked heritage, one cannot deny that food is one of the main attractions here. It hosts the originality of some of the most famous food in the country. For instance. Bak Kut Teh is one of the most sought after food by non muslims. The pork stew in medicinal soup is renowned for its aromatic soup and the stewed meat which is excellently cooked. It is known to be the staple diet of the Chinese in Klang city. One could check it out at the Old Shop Bak Kut Teh located in around Lorong Station1.

At Gelugor, one could try out the Wanton Noodles while Taste Haven Restaurant is popular with its Hokkien and Fook Chow cuisine. When trying out food from these two Chinese dialects, one would normally expect a home cooked styled dish that comes accompanied with rice or noodles. Located at Lorong Batu Nilam in around Bandar Bukit Tinggi, it would be a great location to savour the tastes.

Otherwise, for seafood lovers, one must go to the Coconute Flower Seafood Restaurant located at Teluk Gong. It is not the easiest place to find but for tourists, it is always the best place to start. Alternatively, the Coconut Farm Restaurant at Pandamaran is another common favourite. When in Klang, apart from Bak Kut Teh, seafood is its other famous food, therefore nothing beats enjoying the crabs and prawns that are freshly caught and cooked. For those who enjoy Nyonya food, head out to Nyonya Kitchen at Jalan Batu Unjur.

While Klang is renowned for its Chinese food, Kajang, on the other hand is fondly known for its Malay cuisine. Known also as the ‘Satay Town’, the barbeque meat dipped in peanut spicy sauce is almost a Malaysian trademark in itself. One could locate satay food outlets at almost every corner of Kajang town. But located around the Stadium area, one should try out the outlets there like the Hj Samuri Satay, a nationwide franchise restaurant now found almost all over the country. Apart from satay, one should also try out the Tomyam soup found in nearly all the stalls located along the city. The spicy soup normally served with noodles are targeted to the spicy food lovers and could be too hot to handle for those not used to it.
