Mount Ophir, is one of the peak located in the southern state of Johor in Peninsular Malaysia. Known in the local language as Gunung Ledang, it is located along the Muar and Malacca borders. The 1276 meters high mountain is intriguing as well as physically taxing for anyone attempting to climb to the top. The 64th highest mountain in Malaysia has a clear trail that leads to the top and to many it is the most climbed mountain in the country.
Gunung Ledang has a rich history where legend has it that it used to be filled with gold deposits that attracted a lot of Chinese and Greek diggers where the Chinese even called it ‘Kim Sua’ which means Golden Mountain. The legendary mountain is believed by many under the folklore of a magical princess who habituate there. At that time, the Sultan of Malacca, set his sights on making her his queen. Sultan Mahmud Shah, who was the ruler of the then hugely powerful and popular Malaccan Empire was then given a set of conditions that was highly impossible to meet.
