Johor is the southern state located in Peninsular Malaysia. Previously known as Johore, it has over 2.8 million population residing in the state. Bordered with Melaka and Pahang at the north and the neighbouring country of Singapore at the south, its highest peak is Gunung Ledang or otherwise known as Mount Ophir.

Johor is housed with a coastal line on both sides of the state and 8 big islands in the midst of many smaller ones. They are Pulau Rawa, Pulau Tinggi, Pulau Tengah, Pulau Sibu, Pulau Lima, Pulau Aur, Pulau Besar and Pulau Pemanggil. The coastal lines has at least 400 kilometer beaches on the east and west of the state.

The capital city is Johor Bahru , which is also its royal seat. Formerly known as Tanjung Puteri, JB as it is locally known takes over the former state capital of Johor Lama.

Johor got its name through an Arabic word Jauhar which literally means gem or precious stone. It was ruled by the Sultanate of Johor and was the successor state of the Malacca empire during the 16th century.

Known for being the gateway into Malaysia from the south, it hosts 2 bridges that connects the country with neighbour Singapore and has many towns and cities that still bear the traditional significance of its rich history and heritage.

Towns like Muar and Kluang are predominantly popular for its food and vegetation produce while its capital city in Johor Bahru is well known for its vibrant city life which is a popular choice among revelers and Singaporeans.

Johor’s mother tongue is the Johor-Riau Malay which is said to be originated from Malacca, Riau, Johor and Singapore typically forms the fundamental language in Malaysia and neighbours Indonesia. The national language for both the countries is said to be descended through the logistically centered Johor which was within the Malay Archipelago and eventually led to the dialect being adopted as the lingua franca for trade and commerce.

Major cities here other than its capital of Johor Bahru are Kluang, Muar, Batu Pahat, Segamat, Pontian, Mersing and Kota Tinggi.
