Getting into Penang is possible through various ways. For those flying into Penang, one can get in through its Penang Bayan Lepas International Airport which is connected to most major airports around the country like Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Low Cost Carrier Terminal in Kuala Lumpur and Johor as well. National carrier Malaysia Airlines and budget airline AirAsia both service the routes that connect Penang to other domestic destinations. FireFly too fly to and from other towns like Kota Bahru, Kuantan and Kuala Terengganu. Other international connections here are through to Bangkok, Ko Sah Mui, Phuket in Thailand, Singapore and Medan in Indonesia.

There are no train stops in Penang Island, therefore anyone wishing to take trains would have to stop by at Butterworth to take a connecting bus or taxi over to the island. Otherwise, one can rent a car and drive to Penang. This is easiest using the North-South Expressway and then connecting to the Penang Bridge. For those wishing to take buses, the long distance bus service is available from most towns in around the peninsular. Most long distance buses like Nice, Transnasional come here and stop by the Sungai Nibong Bus Terminal, and from there one is able to take taxis or city buses to get around the town.

A unique transport mode to Penang island is using the Ferry. This is one of the most traditional and classic way to get here as one can drive the car up to the ferry or use the pedastrian walkway into the boats.

Once inside Penang, one will have to use the public transport there. There are public buses and taxis available at most major commercial areas although one could still catch some trishaws operating in around the hotels and shopping malls. Public bus services here is operated by RapidPenang which connects to most major areas like going inland to Batu Ferringhi, Pulau Tikus and major attraction Gurney Drive.
Otherwise, one could rent a car from the car rental agencies like Hertz, Avis and Insas Pacific Rent-a-Car to take a drive around Georgetown before making way into Batu Feringghi to enjoy the serene beach side resorts or to check out the night market that sells mostly souvenirs, crafts and imitation goods.
