There are various ways one could get into Malacca. From neighbouring states of which it is directly connected to, one could come by land. By Land. It is possible to drive into Malacca most likely by the North South Expressway. To get into Malacca, one would have to take the Ayer Keroh interchange or using the Simpang Empat interchange one would have to use the trunk roads to get into the state. For those who would like to take buses, there are long distance express bus services that come from all major towns along the Peninsular like Seremban, Penang, Johor Bahru and Kuala Lumpur while Singapore too serve a route directly to the Melaka Sentral station. All long-distance and local buses now operate from the Melaka Sentral bus terminal, a good 3km from the historic core of the city. There are many bus operators that service routes into Malacca like Malacca-Kuala Lumpur Express, Jebat Ekspress and Transnasional. Alternatively, one can come by Taxi that stops at Jalan Kee Ann which can be chartered from major towns as well. For those arriving at KLIA International Airport, there are also chartered taxis that come directly here. The Batu Berendam Airport only services Riau Airlines that fly to Pekanbaru in Indonesia while ferries are available through the Harbour Master’s Jetty that come and go to Indonesian cities of Pekanbaru, Benkalis and Dumai. Getting around in the city is easy and hassle free. Apart from the usually car renting services available which would always be met by traffic jams, the Malacca Town Bus Service operates routes to go around the city and its landmark attractions. Metered taxis are also available for less than RM10 per ride. Another unique transport in the city would be the florally decorated Trishaws which will take the tourist on an authentic tour around the city and its landmarks in short trips. These vehicles will charge a nominal fee and bargaining is essential and is a great way to see the heritage and history of Malacca. |
